It remains unlikely AI will ever be able to reason. This isn't its commercial usefulness but rather a clever ruse by creators to burn more investor capital.

The future of AI still lies in neural networks which are closer to the way humans sort data. Doctors for example will one day be outmoded by a vast computer network capable of collecting the data from your personal sensors, anecdotal evidence and then giving a 100% accurate diagnosis. This sort of capability will work at scale and be as accessible from the artic tundra as it will be from the depths of Delhi, all via a smartphone.

None of this requires any 'reasoning', merely the comparison of datasets via algorithmic processing.
