It won’t be any of the incumbants. Not Apple, Meta, Google or any other tech giant.

They aren’t trying to build the next computing paradigm; they’re trying to control it.

Technology doesn’t work this way. Although they might like to tell us otherwise current platforms are all still built upon the open standards of the internet. Facebook and Instagram are just wrappers for a website. IOS is built on Unix. ARM is open architecture. Google is still a .com.

As our cities and neighbourhoods grow to incorporate more IOT sensors so will we need a device to parse and just as a web browser does with the information on servers thus will a future AR device, probably built by some startup in a garage somewhere, do the same.

An open architecture will allow competing companies to build their own hardware to the same standard and much like the protocols of the internet it will always be fully backwards compatible and never outdated. It will grow organically and never be forced.
