Its not common knowledge but pretty much every 'innovation' added to Android and iOS over the last 15 years has been ripped straight from the corpse of Palm's webOS that launched with the Palm Pre handset in 2009.

Proper multitasking, Magnetic charging, rounded corners to the OS, deep level search, gesture area for swiping between apps: Palm had all this years before Apple and Google.

Skip to 0:29. Palm had bottom-up notifications too and their implementation was a UX dream. The tiny icons nudged up the whole screen which then expanded when touched. Imagine Apple implementing something like but on an OLED screen.

The notification shade hasn't been fit for purpose since the iPhone 6+ made its debut. This sort of implementation (possibly added to otherwise wasted space on the multitasking carousel) would be an elegant solution.
