Its not that AOD is bad as much as over the top. All it needs it the time and the WatchOS widgets moving around the screen slightly to prevent OLED burn. This would drastically lower battery usage.
Its typical Apple that they Apple it and and it ends up worse than the way other manufacturers have been doing it for over a decade.
