Jonathon Ive will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest product designers of all time and rightly so. But something that often gets overlooked is the influence Jobs had on him.

Jobs wasn't a designer but he had a rare knack for being able to call out bullshit from his design department. Having a strict set of precepts makes a designer work harder as it narrows the creative tunnel to a final solution for a problem.

Once Jobs passed we started seeing excess from Ive's designs and this is likely because Steve was the only one with the balls to tell him things were crap.

For me it was always the littrle things though. Magsafe in 2006 was utter genius and the mechanism for changing straps in the Apple Watch does not get enough credit.
