Maybe the power intermitency will solve more problems than it creates.
The average home might end up with battery backup designed to keep critical systems (burglar alarm, refridgerator, smoke alarms etc) ticking over but not much else. It may be that after a certain time there isnt enough power to recharge laptops, play games consoles or watch TV.
In other words a lack of higher output power at night might help us unwind better, help kids rediscover reading, get more sleep and generally learn to properly turn off again. Imaginr a future where we have a cleaner planet and are properly well-rested in the morning too!
