My own exile is based on my own internal hypocrisy: why am I singing songs on a Sunday morning when there are people out there who need real help? Why are we not as a national church spending every Sunday morning out feeding the homeless?

I’m not going to stand up and tell everyone in the congregation they are wrong because people attend service for all sorts of different reasons. This year I made a resolution to live by example and help the local homeless charity. I however also suffer from crippling anxiety where I get into a feedback loop of being excited to do something, anxious to actually do it and then feeling guilty for not.

Thus my hypocrisy: I think we need to help out more yet do nothing about it myself. Round and round I go.
