What to pack and how to pack it — Travelling can be a wonderful thing. Whether it’s for a short break or a business trip, an overnight city stay allows for respite after a long day of activity and to experience a busy place someone else calls home.

A short trip normally comes with a hidden stress: what the heck to pack?!
If you’re walking around you don’t want to be lumbered with suitcases, doubly so if you’re flying. You don’t have the luxury of space so what to even wear? Will it rain? What if I overdress and its too hot? What will I eat? Am I going out? and so on.

I travel a fair bit for work and whilst I’m not often wandering mountain paths I do like to have an efficiently packed knapsack on my back. Valdiri! So, here’s what I bring and maybe what you should too.

Note this article assumes you’re travelling to a city of some sort and staying in a hotel. If you want a guide to packing for a hike, this guy has you covered.

1. A Good Rucksack

You can’t pack anything without a vessel to put it in. Picking a good rucksack is about finding the tradeoff between capacity and comfort. Hotel check-ins are normally after 3pm so if it’s likely you’ll be walking a fair bit with your luggage, suitcases are out. 40l is a good size for a hike but uncomfortable for sight seeing…
