Thanks to O2's switch plan I have had the unique pleasure of using the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the standard S23 and the Pixel 8 Pro in the space of 12 months, rare for a consumer.

The 14 Max was a great phone but too large and heavy. I've handled the 15 Max in-store and it seems nicer to hold but add a case and I can't comment on whether there would be much difference. Its still a container for iOS, for better or worse.

The S23 put me off Samsung phones for life. It was great to hold, took wonderful shots and had a fantastic battery life. I just cannot get past having to patch in Google's apps for everything despite liking the Samsung ones. And the NFC payments only ever worked half the time.

The Pixel 8 Pro is wonderful. Google's homegrown Android is slick, the AI features genuinely useful and the battery much better than my old Pixel 6. From 10pm one day through to 7pm the next after a busy day of browsing, navigating and photographing my way around London it had lost only 50% battery. The iPhone 11-esque rounded edged are nicely ergonomic for one hand and the camera is something else.
