The entire Bible is a deeply interesting and influential anthology of mythology, legends, folklore, eyewitness accounts, articles, poetry, song and letters. As a piece of literature it is wonderful.

I always think of Genesis in the same way Darren Aronofsky did in the Russell Crowe-led Noah adaptation. In that movie Noah is below decks during the storm quoting the Genesis story and as he talks in that gruff Russell Crowe voice a timelapse plays in the background of how we understand the universe came into being.

If I was God telling Noah how I made the universe would I start giving him a lecture on quantum theory his people would not understand for another four millennia or would I use the a version his mind could actually comprehend?
