The idea of using NFTs as proof of ownership of physical items is something that I believe has a future. It eliminates a lot of the middle management of buying property for example.
I’m not sure about gaming items. Whilst it would be nice to, say have access to my Fortnite skins in a game like FIFA so I can create a comedy football team, gaming (and pretty much every form of entertainment) is built around corporate control and if there is one thing corporations don’t like it is sharing control and therefore revenue. EA don’t want me to use my Fortnite skins; they want me to buy theirs.
As for artwork? The video gets one key thing wrong: my NFT isn’t a piece of artwork; it is a hyperlink to a piece of art hosted on then internet. Should that link break and the artist already ran off with the money its not worth anything. Whoever paid $69m for that collage is now looking at their bank account wondering what they were thinking.
