The Jewish historian Josephus and The Roman historian Tacitus were both independent of each other and historically verified. There exists no physical proof Jesus existed but then again we can probably say that about many famous people from history.

Whether he was the actual son of God depends on your beliefs but the fact his movement even survived the 1st century at all in the face of constant persecution and execution from the Roman Empire is a miracle in itself.
