The market seems a little unfair on the Vision Pro. Has it been a commercial success? Not yet, but then not every product is designed to be. Sometimes it’s ok for a company to just release some cool shit. Does think Sony ever made any money on its Aibo robot dogs? Or did it just demonstrate Sony’s consumer electronics ideals?

Vision Pro is the first Apple product I can think of where they just released something for the hell lf it. It’s out of the price range for most consumers, yes but the mindshare it generates from consumers in thinking Apple are a forward thinking company is invaluable to them and in turn sells more iPhones.

This is marketing 101, and why Pepsi waste money making limited flavours nobody likes and why Sony used to spend money on cool, weird stuff like robot dogs, global TV streamers (in 2005) and an e-ink watch band you could change the pattern of at a moments notice.
