The ownership stats are slightly skewed. As any device with an internet connection has effectively been a radio since the days of shoutcast, 100% of US (and indeed western) households own a 'radio'.

As a medium it never really went anywhere at all. Its a better way to have your musical tastes challenged than a soulless algorithm that just gives you more of what you already like.

As soon as I open Apple Music the centre icon on the bottom is 'Radio' and they just launched three new DJ'd stations ran by people. Talkshows still exist, its just now you can download them as podcasts and listen to them whenever you like.

I can't comment on US stations but the Radio scene here in the UK is obscenely good with a station for just about every taste and of course the programming of the BBC.
