The reason Jobs never wanted larger iPhones and was reticent to even make the 4 bigger to the 5 was this exact reason. Larger screens are in many ways detrimental to the usage case of a smartphone as a Swiss Army knife digital device because it encourages the more distracting elements of the software.

Its not unrealistic to expect to be able to use most of the phone with one hand; it is a fundamental UX failure on behalf of the OS designers who year after year just post a few incremental updates to keep their pay coming in.

Android can actually at the very least be customised to make it work this way, for example being able to lock icons to the bottom of the Home Screen rather than having them float to the top, creating multiple docks via a 3rd party launcher and being able to pull down the shade with a swipe down on the home screen. With iOS you are limited to waiting for Apple to wake up.
