There were 3 natural enemies of the Metaverse:

1. A need to reconnect IRL post-pandemic

2. Corporate overlords wanting to control everything from day 1

3. A lack of any killer USP.

NFT technology could have saved our countries billions of tax *insert currency* in bureaucracy but instead became a byword for crap artwork and ponzi schemes.

The Tech Bros wanting to hype it up as the next big thing took a space of infinite imagination and crafted a boardroom as their killer app.

As with everything the metaverse will probably creep up on us in 10 years after it has grown organically from the ground up but by forcing the idea and betting the farm it has lost all meaning.
