They look in direct competition but Apple doesn’t sell a base config iPad over $1k nor a MacBook under this price.

Unless they mess with the lineup this year with even more configs the iPad sits quite nicely as Apple’s good/better/best sub-$1k computing line where the user is willing to sacrifice some control for a little more security.
