We already know that spending inordinant amounts of time on apps and websites interacting with strangers is exceptionally bad for our health and has, you know destabilised western democracy. How is this going to get any better with everything in 3D? If playing on Xbox Live with invisible strangers has taught us anything it is that it will get much, much worse.

Apple already makes an array of AR devices, the aforementioned Watch and Airpods that serve to augment the real world rather than let us escape to an infinitely worse virtual one. Gurman is right: Apple has no intention of creating a VR headset and every intention of building a Mac with an AR desktop.
