They’re never ‘friends’ though. Zuck’s attempts to turn Facebook into Twitter backfired. People just wanted a place to keep track of their physical relationships whilst they couldn’t be there. Repeat suggested friends was one of the many reasons I deleted my account, despite using it to keep up with people in lockdown.

As someone once wrote to me: “Twitter* is where I go to befriend strangers; Facebook is where I go to hate my friends.”
