This is why the parable of the good samaritan was so powerful. The hebrews in the story were too preoccupied with following their rules that they left a man to die. The samaritan of the tale, unencumbered by such dogma bought the guy a hotel room and a meal.
Many Christians of today, as with the hebrews of the past are so preoccupied with following a bunch of rules that largely do not apply to them that they miss the wood for the trees. I say this as a believer myself too.
The great irony I see Tony is that I see more atheists embodying what Christianity is supposed to represent than I do the church itself. This isn't true of all nations or denominations but from your side of the pond its the most public.
