B, you make a lot of good points. But extra fuel for the fire is climate collapse. We already have summers in Europe that are becoming hotter. Imagine how this is near the equator.

It won’t be some mass exodus of refugees but it will happen. More and more people will gradually come through Turkey and over the Mediterranean looking to escape unbearable summers and the war and famine they will bring. Seasonal immigration drive down wages of physical work but permanent inhabitants do not.

This will unfortunately meet head on with Europe’s lurch to the right. Strongmen politicians offering easy answers are the puppets of businesses and the media who in turn drive the narrative. Here’s hoping they remember the EU is a project designed to prevent another war because nobody wants a return to the 19th Century.
