Too many manufacturers are aiming for the open roads of America instead of the dense streets of Europe.

What the EV needs is a ‘Mini Cooper’ moment: A small city car with a 100 mile range that eliminates all unnecessary conveniences, can pack in 4 people in a pinch and a weeks’ charge will get you a daily cross town commute and a trip to the supermarket at the weekend.

Currently you can pay £10k to have an electric drivetrain retrofitted to a classic Mini by BMW on the premises of the original Mini factory in England. A proper production line for an identical modern small car could make it for as little as £15k to the consumer.
