Top my my list would be Ready Player One.

On paper this had all the right ingredients: Spielberg? Check. 1980’s Nostalgia? Check. Near-future? Check. Videogames? Check.

I’ve watched this movie 4 times and I just cannot see what everyone else likes about it. All I see is a movie that seems to idolise all the worst parts of gaming and the internet and over explains every single reference point.

My immediate comparison was Scott Pilgrim which just tells its story and puts a few nods and winks in for the people that know.
