We do have industry standards for a reason though. SCART, HDMI, GSM, DVD, VHS, CD, USB, WiFi, Bluetooth, MP3 and so on are all industry standards designed to make it easier to facilitate interaction between devices, make it easier on the consumer so they are not locked in to one monopoly and enable companies to make products with a broad range of potential customers.
