We see many articles on the 'dangers' of AI but none on this.
Human society is built around the idea of finite lifespans and therefore fighting our hardest to make our mark on the world. It drives out artwork and our projects and our biological urge to pass on our genes.
You remove this and it changes what it means to be human. Increased lifespans (which if we are being honest means the billionaires living forever and not us plebs) means those at the top stay there indefinitely, 1%ing away for centuries.
If we seek to increase the healthspan of people it means working longer years, not having a better retirement. Less jobs for younger people means the burden becomes shifted from the aged to the youth. We are already seeing the start of this effect with rising property prices, increased retirement ages and more children living at home into adulthood.
What we should be working towards is wiping out genetic disorders for our children. If we, for example managed to genetically wipe out diabetes so that it is no longer a burden on those who follow us then the savings to the state and for individuals would be incalculable.
