Whilst I always for the spreading of more old English folklore, there is more truth to the ‘Robin of Loxley’ than most know. Academics at Sheffield Hallam University have strong evidence to have found his original Yorkshire birthplace: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/heritage-and-retro/heritage/bid-to-reclaim-robin-hood-as-yorkshire-legend-gets-underway-with-new-book-3492895

I live a few miles from Loxley (not to be confused with Locksley in Worcestershire) and walked the trail. 800 years ago the forest of Loxley Chase would have met up with Sherwood Forest, both areas being much much larger than in the present day.

The presence of Little John’s grave in the churchyard of the nearby village of Hathersage also lends some credence to the area being associated with the legend: https://thirdeyetraveller.com/find-little-johns-grave-hathersage/
