Whilst we don't want them to contribute another centuries' worth of CO2 into the atmosphere, we in the west have no leg to stand on when it comes to telling them they can't. "Your country cannot have the benefits of a developed society because we already screwed up the planet" is hypocracy of the highest order.

Our hope is that they learn from our mistakes and don't just repeat them.
