Windows ‘won’ because it was available on mass market cheaper hardware. Windows remains the only OS available at scale to businesses. People might need the same OS at home because their school or workplace also has it. And if you’re a gamer you have Windows because it’s where all the games are.

But I’m not sure anyone ever picked Windows over MacOS because it was better designed because that has never been true.
