You only have to look at what Facebook themselves have created already: faced with the prospect of a limitless imaginary space that does not obey the laws of physics and anything is possible they recreated a boardroom and whiteboard for a meeting app.

Zuckerberg is spending his time trying to force through what should be an organic process. The Metaverse in Snow Crash became a popular hangout space but it took root amongst the hackers and nerds (like the regular internet) and grew from there.

The metaverse as they all see it will never take off because it will be corporations vying for control of the whole space.
