In the wider world of product design (physical ones, not just software) designers who just seek to beautify will sink to the bottom whereas designers who actively seek out problems to solve will rise to the top.
When it comes to software UX the market has been focused entirely on beautification for too long. Now, there is nothing wrong with an attractive-looking app but how many UX designers look into the human elements of design?
I am talking about Ergonomorphism, the idea that software design has fundamentally lost its way because it never stopped to think about the devices people use apps on and the interactions therein. Pretty overtook practicality.
